Protector vs. Other Pelican Lines: Which Case Should You Buy?

Protector is Pelican's original line - the heaviest-duty build and the deepest size range in the catalog. If you want something lighter for air travel, look at Pelican Air (up to 40% lighter). If you need faster one-handed latch access in the field, Pelican Storm cases are built for that. For firearm-specific sizing and foam, see Vault by Pelican. For large-format institutional or military transport, see Pelican Hardigg.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pelican Protector Cases

What's the difference between the 1510, 1560, and other Protector sizes?

The model number roughly tracks size. The 1510 is Pelican's compact carry-on case, the 1560 steps up for larger camera and equipment kits, and sizes climb from there up to the 1770 long case. See the size groupings above, or visit our dedicated 1510 page for that specific model.

How do I find a Protector case by dimensions instead of model number?

Interior dimensions vary by model - for example the 1510 measures roughly 19.75 x 11.00 x 7.60 inches. If you know your equipment's size, start with the size category above, or check our Transport Cases page for exact interior dimensions on several popular Protector sizes.

What is the Pelican 1200 case used for?

The 1200 is a compact Protector case with 9.25 x 7.12 x 4.12 inch interior dimensions, popular for handguns, small electronics, and tools - it's one of the most-searched sizes in this collection.

Are Pelican Protector cases waterproof?

Yes. Every Protector case is watertight to IP67 and dustproof, with an automatic purge valve and O-ring seal - the same rating used across Pelican's entire case lineup.

Do Protector cases come with foam?

Most ship with your choice of pick-n-pluck foam or no foam. Foamerica also cuts fully custom foam inserts for any Protector model - see our Custom Foam Cases collection.

What's the difference between Protector and Pelican's other case lines?

Protector is the original heavy-duty line. Pelican Air is lighter for travel, Pelican Storm opens faster in the field, and Vault by Pelican is purpose-built for firearms. See the comparison above for a full breakdown.
